Radio frequency identification system
RFID stands for Radio Frequency Identification. RFID is the technology for automatic identification. In this technology method data should be remotely retriveted through remote devices called RFID tags. RFID tags also known as transponders, these transponders are like chips which are attached or inserted in some product, person or animal. Through radio waves these chips ot tags easily identified. Transponders are generally made of siliocon chips attached with an antennas.

RFID tags or transducers are also known as proxy or proximity cards. RFID tags comes in three varieties: Active tag, passive tag, and semi passive tag. The active RFID system requires power but passive rfid requires no power source. RFID tag chips information and instruction are stored and that can be used to read from radio waves. Radio waves can read information from up to 90 feet from chip.

Initially RFID solution was used to identifying dogs for the purpose of permanent identification number. Now days RFID system used in almost every field like medicine, shipping, automobiles, electronics devices, library, musical instruments etc.

The major purpose of RFID technology is to transfer data or information through mobile devicies. These mobile devices are chips and there is a RFID reader which reads and process information according to the application.

A typical RFID technology system embedded with a inexpensive tag which consist of transponder having digital memory chip. This tag have a unique product code. The RFID transceiver consist of an antenna, an interrogator and a decoder. The transceiver emits a signal or radio waves which activate RFID tag and information should be read or write in memory chip. When a RFID tag passes through a electromagnetic fiels of its transceiver, it detects the reader's activation signal. After reaging data the decoder decodes data and passed to the host computer. The host computer process the data using Physical Markup Language (PML).

Take the example of books in a library. Security gates can detect whether or not a book has been properly checked out of the library. When users return items, the security bit is re-set and the item record in the Integrated library system is automatically updated. In some RFID solutions, a return receipt can be generated. At this point, materials can be roughly sorted into bins by the return equipment. Inventory wands provide a finer detail of sorting. This tool can be used to put books into shelf-ready order.
